Organizational Behavior Management

Companies who wish to strategize their organizational behavior principles make a start by putting the organizational behavior principles in text. The next step is to put the principles into practice which will render the principles effective. The process of documenting the practice and implementing it is closed by the concept of managing the execution of the principles. More often than not, Organizational Behavior Management deals with the principles and practices which help in managing organizational behavior.

Few tips for people to effective Organizational Behavior Management

  • The whole management cycle starts at the commencement of the cycle and at the top. The principles are structured and conceived keeping current business objectives. A smart business owner will take into count the shape and the health of the company. As an example, if a business is in expansion phase and the employees are involved heavily in meeting deliverables, asking the employees to spend some more time in Organizational Behavior may not be the best thing to do. Bottom-line, business owners define OB principles trading off the business objectives and the current health of the company, though many companies have integrated OB principles keeping in mind only the business objectives.

  • Communication is a direct way of managing Organizational Behavior. If the company comes up with 3 policies which outline the need of a safe and secure workplace, it should ensure that it communicates the 3 policies and the ways to implement the policies to all its employees. That it can do by means of periodicals, intranet etc. Frequent communication (may be once a week) to employees would mean that you are driving home the point of integrating the OB principles.

  • Another way of managing Organizational behavior is regular follow up at different levels. You can start by appointing an internal team who does this for you. The team would observe the conduct of employees at different levels and note the compliance to the Organizational Behavior guidelines. Team Managers and Business Managers can ensure that OB adherence is achieved by enforcing the principles (in words and through action) during team meetings.

  • Many companies are toying with the idea of integrating team building activities with the OB principles. This is a good plan when the Organizational Behavior guidelines are formulated. It also shows the employees what they need to do to adhere to the company policies.

Organizational Behavior Management is critical to ensure that organizational behavior guidelines are not wasted on paper. Remember, business owners formulate these guidelines to ensure that their entities are recognized as ethical and a worker friendly workplace. It is your duty as an employee to follow those principles.
